This is the map of Binghamton University.  They call it "the brain" because it is shaped like a brain.  On the outside are the dorms and the inside are the lecture halls and classrooms.

CIW is the dorm the closest to your office.  It is located across the street from the Union.  A lot of Jews live in CIW and is known to be the hippy dorm.

Hinman is the dorm closest to the lecture hall.  I had many very successful programs there.  Many Jewish students live in Hinman as freshmen.

Moutainview is the new dorm on campus.  It is all the way up on top of the hill.  This year was the first year it was open and many freshmen lived in them.  I don't know if it is going to be the same for next year.

Newing is the farthest dorm from your office, but the closest to Chabad.  It is known to be where the sorority and frat students live.  Newing is very Jewish.

Dickinson is known not to have many Jews living there, however very often you will find some.  It is right across from the Kosher Kitchen on campus. (sorry there is no picture of what Dickinson looks like)

Hillside and Susquehanna: Are two dorms that are located on top of the hill on campus.  Usually only juniors and seniors live in them.  They are apartment style dorms.

Hayes: Is an apartment building that is located right near Chabad.  It is where a lot of the orthodox students live so that they are walking distance to Chabad and campus.  It is mostly seniors that live there and it is off campus housing.

Stores for program supplies:

Wal-Mart- Has ANYTHING that you will ever need. It is open 24 hours and you will often see more students in Wal-Mart then you care to see. From groceries to clothing, if you aren't sure where to get something go to Wal-Mart.  It is located on Vestal Parkway.

AC Moore- This is a craft store.  It is in the same location as Wal-Mart.

Michael's- Another craft store.  Basically the same as AC Moore.  It is located a little past Wal-Mart on Vestal Parkway.

Price Chopper- Is known for its Kosher section.  When you walk in, to the right is the Kosher Korner.  It has many different selections of Kosher food.  Also Price Chopper is the only place in the area that carries Kosher meat.  It is located on Main Street in Binghamton.

Some of the girls from the middleastern night!

Oakdale Mall: This is the shopping Mall on the corner of Harry L Drive and Reynolds Rd.  Although it is not the best shopping you have ever been to they have a few nice stores.

Jewish Community Center (JCC): The JCC is located on Club House road.  They have classes there and sometimes bring in speakers.  I have never actually been inside but I thought about taking a few workout classes there this year.

Temple Israel: Is located right across the street from the JCC.  It is the Conservative Synagogue in the area.

Hillel Academy:  Is the Jewish day school in the area.  It is connected to Temple Israel.  Gary's four children go to Hillel Academy.

Temple Concord:  Is the reform Synagogue on Riverside Drive.

Beth David Synagogue: Is the Orthodox Synagogue on Riverside Drive where Gary goes.

Bars and Nightlife:

The Ale House:  Is a bar on Vestal Parkway.  I think that it is populated by some townies and some of the student population.

Sports Bar, Tony's, Flashbacks, and the Rat:  Are all located in downtown Binghamton on State street.  They are all student bars so unless you want to see students out, I would not go there.

Wagner's- You will be calling and going to Wagner's at least once a week.  Wagner's is the Kosher bakery in town.  They have some great desserts!  Just make sure that you tell them you want things non-dairy if you are eating meat (they don't always understand Parve).  Wagner's is located on the West Side of Binghamton near Gary's house.

Wegman's- Is the best thing that happened to Binghamton in a long time.  Wegman's is a high-class 24-hour grocery store.  It has everything. Wegman's is located across the street from the mall on Harry L Drive.

Maines- is the discount paper store.  It has all different kinds of decorating materials.  We used to go to Maines every Friday and get the supplies for Shabbat as well as things to decorate the room with.

Restaurants: The only Kosher restaurant in Binghamton is the Kosher Kitchen.

Manhatten Deli: Is a deli located right near Wal-Mart.  They have a section of frozen kosher foods.  We sometimes picked up meat from there.  If you tell them that you work for Hillel they will give you a discount.

Port-O-Bagel:  A good bagel shop right next to the University.

There are some chain restaurants on Vestal Parkway such as Olive Garden, Friendly's (the ice cream is Kosher), TGIFriday's, and Uno's.

Cyber Cafe: I have never been to the Cyber Café, but it is supposed to be a great restaurant to take students out to lunch.  It is located on Main street in Binghamton.  They have really good coffee and great food.

J Michael's:  Is probably the best Italian food in the Binghamton area.  It is not that expensive and the food is pretty good.  J Michael's is located in downtown Binghamton.

Lost Dog Cafe:  Is my favorite restaurant in Binghamton.  It has everything and the food is SOOO good.  It is also located downtown.

Buffy's Burritos: Is located underneath Coffee Talk on Court Street.  It has really good burritos, but is open very odd hours so make sure to call before you go there.
